‘Imren is a Berlin döner institution that’s been around for over two decades. Located in Neukölln right off Hermannplatz, this place has a reputation for exceptional meat quality among the Turkish population in Berlin. A taxi driver once passionately described to me how the meat at Imren is so tender since they marinate it in milk. True or not, it is indeed the quality of the meat, along with great sauces, that make Imren’s döner stand out from the competition. The bread at Imren is good, the condiments classic iceberg salad, onions and tomatoes very classic. This Döner is really also not the prettiest, quite the opposite actually, but this is very much compensated by the exceptional quality and consistency of the meat and the fresh sauces. The hot sauce is spicy as hell and the herb sauce is fresh and vibrant and not as sweet as those of the competitors. Imren is really one of the very few places where I actually love the Döner sauces. The meat is by far the best Döner meat in Berlin, it’s actually so damn good that it’s not really comparable to other options. It’s full of flavour and every bite of a Imren Döner is one way ticket to the Middle East that will make you question most of your previous Döner choices. Imren is the best Döner Kebab in Berlin a shining star in the vast galaxy of Berlin Döners. A visit here might just redefine your whole Döner game.’
Dit was de nummer 1 van iemand die de moeite nam er een heel artikel aan te wijden. Een local, dus laten we het gewoon even gaan testen aight?
In Klein-Istanbul parkeerden we de auto, manoeuvreerden door hordes druktemakers en liepen Imren binnen.
Toko ziet eruit alsof hier goede dingen gebeuren; allerlei lui lopen heen en weer met bakken shit, er draait een enorme fucking rol in het raam. Echt, een ENORME FUCKING ROL!
Het vlees dat eraf wordt gesneden, valt in een soort ‘pan’ waar het verder bakkelt en weetikveelwat.
Het ziet er gewoon kicken uit. Serieus. En dan valt je oog op het bord boven de vitrine…
En loopt het water uit je muil hoor!
Binnen snel kregen we vier broodjes ALLES KOMPLETT voorgeschoteld en kon het testen beginnen.
Op de foto lijkt het een broodje sla, maar dat was het niet.
Ik zal je zeggen; ik heb nog nooit zoiets gegeten!!
De smaak van dit vlees heb je nog nooit gehad. Jij ook niet. Kan niet. Onmogelijk!
Ze doen er kruidnagel in ga ik vanuit…een hele speciale smaak, die verkeerd kan vallen of juist heel erg goed. Je moet ervan houden zeggen we dan. Mij bevalt het.
Die rol is trouwens MAD Yaprak! Daar zou je zo mee trouwen als het geen kebabrol was.
God, wat moet ik nou zeggen?
Dit broodje had de geijkte zooi erin; sla, ui, tomaat, knoflook en hete saus.
Ik had ‘m extra scharf genomen en dat werkte. Lekker heet!
Maar…dat vlees. Dat moet je gewoon eens gaan proeven. Het ambacht smaakt naar meer!
